Honeywell BW RigRat2

Honeywell BW RigRat Transportable Multi-Gas Area Monitor

The Honeywell BW™ RigRat Transportable Multi-Gas Area Monitor is a rugged and versatile solution designed for continuous gas monitoring in hazardous work areas. Unlike personal gas detectors that are worn by individual workers, the RigRat is designed to establish a temporary gas monitoring zone and provide early warning when hazardous gases are detected.

With support for up to six gas sensor slots, wireless communication, remote monitoring capabilities, and a rugged weather-resistant design, the Honeywell BW RigRat is suitable for demanding applications such as oil and gas operations, plant maintenance, confined-space work, turnarounds, and temporary work zones.

Continuous Area Gas Monitoring for Workplace Safety

Gas releases can occur unexpectedly during maintenance, repair, shutdown, turnaround, or other industrial activities. A reliable area monitoring system can help provide an early warning before workers are exposed to potentially hazardous atmospheric conditions.

The Honeywell BW RigRat continuously measures gas concentrations in the surrounding area and activates visual and audible alarms when configured alarm conditions are reached. This allows workers and safety personnel to respond quickly and take appropriate action.

The system can bridge the gap between portable personal gas detectors and permanent fire and gas detection infrastructure, making it particularly useful when temporary monitoring is required.

Multi-Gas Detection in One Monitoring Platform

The RigRat can be configured with up to six gas sensor slots, allowing organizations to select sensors according to the hazards present in their working environment. Supported gas options include combustible gases, oxygen (O₂), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), carbon dioxide (CO₂), VOCs, sulfur dioxide (SO₂), ammonia (NH₃), chlorine (Cl₂), nitrogen oxides, hydrogen cyanide (HCN), and other gases depending on the selected configuration.

This flexibility makes the RigRat suitable for applications where multiple atmospheric hazards need to be monitored simultaneously.

Wireless Area Monitoring and Remote Visibility

One of the key advantages of the Honeywell BW RigRat is its wireless connectivity. Depending on the configuration, the instrument can support Bluetooth Low Energy, Mesh, and Wi-Fi communication.

Wireless networking allows multiple monitoring devices to work as part of a broader safety monitoring system. The RigRat is also compatible with Honeywell TouchPoint  Plus, supporting remote monitoring and centralized visibility of gas detection information.

For large industrial sites or temporary work zones, wireless monitoring can help safety teams maintain better awareness of changing atmospheric conditions without having to physically check every monitoring point.

Its robust construction makes it suitable for temporary deployment in industrial areas where environmental conditions can be demanding.

Long Runtime for Extended Monitoring

The RigRat is equipped with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The low-power model can provide up to 8 weeks of runtime on a single charge, depending on configuration and operating conditions.

This extended operating time is particularly useful for long-duration maintenance projects, shutdowns, turnarounds, and other applications where continuous area monitoring is required.

Easy-to-Read Display and Alarm System

The RigRat features a 3.5-inch TFT color LCD display with 240 × 320 resolution, providing visibility of gas readings and instrument status. The display can show real-time gas concentrations as well as information such as battery status, wireless status, and other monitoring parameters.

For alarm notification, the system uses bright LED indicators and an audible alarm. The datasheet specifies an audible alarm of up to 108 dBA at 1 meter, helping ensure that hazardous conditions can be noticed in industrial work environments.
